If you want a trek away from the crowds then Manaslu & Tsum Valley will show you the Himalayas that I remember. We hand fed Pika’s at 5000 metres. We saw Tahr, Blue Sheep, Himalayan Griffins and Marmots. Another group spotted a Snow Leopard and Dhawa recorded the first photo of a Clouded Leopard in the Tsum. Everything was very smooth, from the start to the end, with no logistical or communication challenges. My family and I have known Dhawa Gyanjen Tsumba since my wife and I first trekked with him in 2009. Then in 2010, I trekked to his Tsum Valley home with my two sons. In 2012 one son and I made a meditation film with Dhawa’s guidance and unique understanding of Buddhist culture. I worked with Dhawa again in 2017 when I produced another film with Dhawa’s help about Nepali culture. He is well organized and can anticipate a host of possible stumbling blocks that can happen in this kind of environment. And, most importantly – he does all this with a cheerful attitude and a sense of humour. Dhawa has visited our home in San Diego, California several times and I consider him a GOOD friend.
